“I think we are on the right track and the things we share are important and relevant.”

‘I am Mirjam, 26 years old. I have been living in Rotterdam for about 2,5 years now. I am a speech therapist and I also completed my master Health Economics, Policy & Law in October. I believe there is a lot to be gained in healthcare. I think it is important that we focus even more on the prevention of certain diseases (e.g. by eating (more) plant-based food) instead of treating symptoms with medication, as seems to be the case with current Western medicines. In this way, we can make healthcare more sustainable and affordable.

I write a post every week about “Initiatives of GzG” (In The Spotlight). This is a relatively accessible way to still work for GzG. I think GzG is really a fantastic organization! As a bonus, I also get to know a lot of great restaurants and other initiatives in Rotterdam through the posts I write. I think we are on the right track and the things we share are important and relevant. Now we can look at how we can generate greater reach.

When I first lived in Rotterdam, I participated in a vegan potluck that was organized by members of the Facebook group “Vegan Rotterdam”. There I met someone who already knew GzG. We had dinner together once on a Wednesday evening, and the rest is history!’

“I think cooking is a fun way to get to know the other volunteers better and to improve / expand your own cooking skills.”

‘I ate at GzG once. I was so enthusiastic about the concept that I ended up directly in the group app for volunteers. Due to busy work and study I didn’t have time to help with cooking, but since the summer I started writing posts instead. I think the cooking is a fun way to get to know the other volunteers better and to improve or expand your own cooking skills. In addition, you help people to taste how delicious plant-based food can be!

It would be really cool if GzG became a household name throughout the Netherlands (and maybe even abroad). Many different people with different (study) backgrounds work together at GzG. If we make even more use of it, that may well be possible (provided that the organization itself aspires to do so).’
